Keith Carlson, RN, BS - Nurse, Writer, Blogger, Consultant, Entrepreneur
Welcome!

A Little About Me.....

Nurse:

I have been a nurse since 1996, specializing in case management, hospice, home care, HIV/AIDS, psychiatric nursing, ambulatory care, and more recently, public health. I have dedicated most of my nursing career to working with vulnerable and under-served populations, and have used my Spanish-language skills to work extensively with the Latino community.

Writer:

As a writer, I am an expert blogger and editorial contributor on BlackDoctor.org, the premier health and wellness website for African Americans, and have written articles for Working Nurse Magazine of Southern California. I have also contributed significantly to several nursing websites, including NurseConnect, NurseTogether, and Nurse LinkUp.

I am a contributing author in two books of non-fiction by nurses released by Kaplan Publishing, Reflections on Doctors and Final Moments: Nurses' Stories on Death and Dying, and was also included in Nurses on the Run, a nursing anthology published in 2010.

Blogger:

I maintain a popular nursing blog, Digital Doorway, which focuses mostly on nursing and healthcare, yet also delves into spirituality, politics, and the odd story about my life and personal struggles. Another version of Digital Doorway exists at Alensa.com, and Digital Doorway also feeds automatically to NursesNetwork and MedXCentral.

My writing is frequently featured on two well-known and popular blog carnivals, Grand Rounds and Change of Shift.

In July of 2008, I was awarded the first ever Nurse Blogger Scholarship by Value Care Value Nurses, the nursing arm of the Service Employees International Union (SEIU).

Consultant:

As a nurse consultant, I have assisted clients in the areas of program development, patient service coordination, and community outreach.

Entrepreneur:

I am a Certified Laughter Yoga Leader. Together with my wife and business partner Mary Rives, we bring stress management presentations and dynamic techniques for improved health and well-being to businesses, schools, and community groups across the United States.
